According to victims and eyewitnesses, on Sunday night, several members of Hezbut Tawheed along with locals were listening to Imam Hossain Mohammad Selim's video speech at a tea shop in Hazaribagh. At that time, a local organized gang arrived and obstructed them, demanding to stop the propagation. The attackers labeled Hezbut Tawheed as 'anti-Islamic', 'atheist', and 'agents of the Jews', attempting to incite the present crowd and deliberately trying to create a mob.
Eyewitnesses said that seeing the situation heating up, Hezbut Tawheed members immediately stopped the speech to avoid conflict and began leaving the place. However, as they were returning, a group of 30-40 people attacked them from behind with sticks, rods, and iron bars. In the assault, three members' heads were split open, and others were seriously wounded. Later, locals came forward and rescued them, sending them to the hospital.
Victim Nizam Uddin said, "We were peacefully sharing our respected Imam's speech. Suddenly, 15-20 people came and started abusing us, calling us agents of Jews and Christians and anti-Islamic. To avoid chaos, we immediately stopped the program, packed up, and were leaving. But they attacked us from behind, grabbed my collar, and dragged me. When our responsible brothers arrived at the scene after hearing the news, without listening to anything, they beat us indiscriminately with bricks and rods. I have four stitches on my body, three brothers have head injuries, and one brother's eardrum is ruptured. Doctors have expressed concern about his hearing ability."
Another victim, Faruk Hasan, alleged, "The attackers are involved with Jamaat-Shibir politics. Those who claim to provide security to the country are today snatching our freedom of speech. Our only crime is that we are spreading the truth among people. They deliberately created a mob and carried out barbaric torture on us. We demand justice for this incident."
Injured Ramna Zone President Md. Ershad Shikder said, "Upon receiving the news, I went to the scene and saw that the attackers were calling more people over the phone. They were propagating that Hezbut Tawheed is a banned organization and we are agents of Christians. By using such provocative words, they incited people and attacked us. We strongly condemn this heinous attack and demand fair justice from the administration."
However, when asked about the attack allegation, Hazaribagh Thana Jamaat-e-Islami President Aktar Ul Alam Sohel said he was not aware of any such incident.
The victims have filed a written complaint at Hazaribagh Police Station as plaintiffs. Hazaribagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman said, "We have received the complaint regarding the attack. Legal action will be taken quickly against those involved based on the investigation."
Hezbut Tawheed's Dhaka Divisional President Dr. Mahbub Alam Mahfuz has strongly condemned and protested this attack. He has urged the police administration to identify the attackers promptly and bring them under the law.
