Demand for the Arrest of the Attackers

An incident of a completely unprovoked and sudden attack on members of Hezbut Tawheed has taken place in Faridpur. In this incident, two members of Hezbut Tawheed were seriously injured. We strongly condemn and protest this terrorist attack.

The incident occurred on Sunday (28 December 2025) at around 4:00 pm at the Rajbari Road intersection in Faridpur Sadar. Two local members of Hezbut Tawheed—Mahidur Rahman Mridul and Jihad Mollah—were playing audio recordings of speeches by the Honorable Imam of Hezbut Tawheed on a sound player mounted on a rickshaw. At that time, 8–10 individuals wearing religious attire, identifying as mullahs/mawlavis, stopped them and demanded that the broadcast be halted. In order to avoid any undesirable situation, our peace-loving members immediately turned off the sound player.

Later, while the two workers were returning, at around 4:30 pm in the Charkamalapur area, those same individuals again blocked their path. They began hurling abusive language at our workers. At that point, due to their provocation, another 10–12 youths and young men gathered at the scene and launched an attack on our two workers. By then, 4–5 more of our workers had arrived at the spot. When they tried to restrain the attackers, they too were assaulted. In self-defense, our workers made every possible effort to repel the attackers.

As a result of this attack, two of our workers—Jihad Mollah (25) and Sujan Sheikh (30)—were seriously injured and are currently undergoing medical treatment.

We strongly condemn and protest this incident.

Hezbut Tawheed states with firm conviction that this unwanted incident was instigated by a group of religious opportunists wearing religious attire. Hezbut Tawheed is a peace-loving organization. We conduct our publicity and organizational activities strictly in accordance with the country’s existing laws and with full respect for them.

There was no public rally, discussion meeting, or any such program of ours scheduled in Faridpur. Locally, only recorded speeches of our Honorable Imam, Mr. Hossain Mohammad Selim, were being played on a sound player. If even this minimal form of publicity causes irritation to any individual or group, then it must be understood that they do not believe in freedom of expression or in the freedom of speech of individuals and organizations. They want only their own views to be broadcast and no one else’s. We strongly condemn such intolerant behavior.

Moreover, it has come to our attention that several media outlets have published news claiming that “Hezbut Tawheed activists attacked two leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.” This is an entirely false and fabricated report. When our workers themselves were the victims, portraying the injured parties as the attackers—without verifying the truth of the incident and based solely on one side’s account—is not only yellow journalism but also a serious offense.

Furthermore, our injured workers had no opportunity to identify whether the attackers were members of any organization, as the attack was sudden. Yet news is being published in a way that makes it appear as though our members knowingly clashed with leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. We strongly protest such false reporting.

Finally, we humbly urge the local administration of Faridpur and the law-enforcement agencies to conduct a proper investigation into this incident, identify the attackers and instigators, and take appropriate legal action against them.

Respectfully submitted,
Mahbubul Alam Nikkan
Joint General Secretary, Hezbut Tawheed
