A press conference was held in Uttara, Dhaka, to protest the distribution of defamatory leaflets, the spread of rumors, and the ongoing misinformation campaign targeting Hizbut Towheed. The event was organized by the Uttara Zone of Hizbut Towheed on Wednesday morning, 29 July 2026, at the Uttara Press Club.

The keynote statement was delivered by Dr. Mahbub Alam Mahfuz, President of Hizbut Towheed's Dhaka Divisional Committee. Other speakers included Md. Mashiur Rahman, Joint General Secretary of the Central Committee, and Mokhlesur Rahman Sumon, Secretary for Student Welfare.

The speakers alleged that an extremist group has been conducting a coordinated propaganda campaign with the objective of obstructing the peaceful activities of Hizbut Towheed. According to them, a particular group associated with Qawmi madrasas in Uttara has recently distributed leaflets containing false and misleading information in an attempt to create confusion among the public. They further stated that a sustained campaign of misinformation and defamation has also been carried out against Hizbut Towheed through various social media platforms.

The speakers also alleged that the sacred pulpits of mosques have been used in several locations to deliver inflammatory speeches. They claimed that, particularly during Friday congregational prayers, misleading sermons have been presented to provoke worshippers, while defamatory leaflets have been distributed simultaneously.

The leaders present at the press conference expressed concern that such activities could be used to incite an artificial mob, potentially leading to attacks on Hizbut Towheed's Central Office in Uttara, the residence of the organization's Imam, Hosain Mohammad Selim, and the homes of its members, thereby putting lives and property at risk.

During the press conference, the speakers called upon the relevant authorities to take strict legal action against those responsible for spreading misinformation and attempting to incite mob violence. They also presented a three-point demand:

  1. Immediate legal action against those involved in spreading misinformation and attempting to incite mob violence.

  2. Ensuring the security of the residence of Hizbut Towheed's Imam and the organization's Central Office.

  3. Providing protection for the lives and property of the members of Hizbut Towheed.

Among those present at the press conference were Shahidul Islam, President of the Uttara Zone of Hizbut Towheed, Shariful Islam, President of the Uttara-Gazipur Zone, along with other leaders of the organization.
