-Mustafiz Shihab
If we look at the current state of the world, we see a deeply disturbing picture of chaos and instability. Across nations, there are wars, conflicts, bloodshed, and cries of despair. Especially in recent years, the relentless persecution and oppression of Muslims in various parts of the world have surpassed even the worst cruelties in history. In Palestine, millions of innocent women and children have been killed. Across the globe, millions are now refugees. A similar situation exists in our neighboring country, Myanmar. Recently, the attacks and destruction in the Middle East, particularly in Iran, are unfolding before our very eyes.
Today, there are approximately 2.4 billion Muslims worldwide, about 31% of the global population. We have 57 independent states, vast territories spanning millions of square miles, and abundant natural resources. Yet, despite all this, Muslims remain among the most oppressed, persecuted, and humiliated people in the world. Why is this so? We have the Holy Qur’an in our homes, countless mosques and madrasas where worship is performed daily, and a massive population—yet why are we so helpless? Finding the answer to this question is no longer just a religious matter; it has become essential for our national and global survival.
Our current condition can be compared to a lifeless body. A person may have hands, feet, eyes, and ears, but without life or soul, they cannot be called a living human—they are a corpse. Similarly, a fan may have blades and a motor, but without electricity, it cannot produce air. The condition of Muslim society and humanity at large today is just like this.
We have prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, and charity. The recitation of the Qur’an continues in our homes. But we lack the essential core. We have deviated from Tawheed (the oneness of God). We perform religious rituals, but we have strayed far from the true purpose of religion—establishing peace in human life, protecting human rights, eliminating inequality, and ensuring justice.
A simple example of prayer beads illustrates our current social and political condition. A set of beads is held together by a single thread. If the thread breaks, the beads scatter. Likewise, the thread that unites Muslims is Tawheed—“La ilaha illallah” (There is no god but Allah). But today, we have moved away from this core belief and become divided into countless sects, ideologies, and political identities. Due to personal interests, we cannot unite.
We are engaged in internal conflicts. Had Muslim countries in the Middle East not been divided among themselves, no superpower would have been able to carry out aggression there. Our divisions are being exploited by imperial powers. They are looting our resources, destroying our economies, and using us for their own interests. This is not only true globally but also at the national level. We are politically divided. Government and opposition parties treat each other as enemies. We cannot come together to make decisions for the progress of our nation. As a result, we are becoming internally weak as a nation.
Any conscious citizen would agree that Bangladesh has now become a highly গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কেন্দ্র (center of gravity) in global politics. Due to its geographical position, major powers like the United States, China, Russia, and India are all focusing on Bangladesh. To them, the lives of ordinary people here hold little value; they are interested in our land, our seaports, Saint Martin’s Island, and our natural resources.
They want to use this region to expand their influence. Meanwhile, we are losing our economic independence. Today, we are burdened with over $113 billion in foreign debt. Crushed under the weight of an interest-based economic system, we are gradually becoming a crippled and dependent nation. Our youth, suffering from unemployment, are desperate to leave the country, risking their lives by crossing seas after spending huge sums of money. Energy crises, rising prices, and economic inequality have made life unbearable for ordinary people.
Behind all this, our country is witnessing a festival of bad politics and corruption. A small group accumulates mountains of wealth, while millions struggle just to survive. Though democracy is often proclaimed, the current system has fundamentally failed to bring freedom to the common people.
Similarly, our judicial system is flawed. Millions of cases remain pending for years. People, unable to get justice, are becoming frustrated and taking the law into their own hands. Crimes such as murder, rape, juvenile gangs, mob violence, and lynching are becoming widespread. The root cause is that we rely on man-made systems that fail to meet human needs and ensure justice. The Almighty Creator, who created humanity, knows best which laws are beneficial. Yet we have abandoned divine guidance and rely on flawed human-made laws.
In this critical moment, what is the way to liberation? To find the answer, we must return to our roots. Our primary identity is that we are creations of one Creator. Our parents are Adam (AS) and Eve (AS). We are all part of one humanity. Therefore, the purpose of our lives should be to live according to the laws of the Creator.
Tawheed—“La ilaha illallah”—is not merely a phrase to be spoken. It is a firm declaration that we will not accept any unjust or exploitative system created by others in place of divine guidance. If we truly want to live as a free and sovereign nation, we must change the foundation of our state system.
We need a Tawheed-based state system, where governance is based on justice and fairness as prescribed by the Creator. One of its key conditions is establishing an interest-free economy. Until we free our economy from the curse of interest, true economic liberation will not come. At the same time, the judicial system must be reformed to ensure swift and fair justice based on divine law.
Therefore, we must realize that our existence is under threat. At any moment, we could become victims of geopolitical conspiracies and lose our independence and sovereignty. In such a situation, we must abandon divisive politics and move toward greater national unity.
Those in power must understand that superficial reforms cannot save this decaying society and state. Structural and ideological change is necessary. We cannot continue under the exploitative system created by the British. Over the decades, we have seen governments change, but the fate of the common people remains the same—because the foundation of the system itself is flawed.
Now is the time to rise. Ordinary people, youth, scholars, intellectuals—everyone must unite beyond divisions. We must collectively demand a just, equitable, and interest-free society. Only by returning to the path of justice shown by the Creator can we achieve peace in this world and leave a livable country for future generations. Otherwise, we will become mere pawns of global powers and witness our own downfall.
In conclusion, the greatest blessing for humanity is peace and security. This peace can never come from unjust, self-serving systems created by humans. We must follow the path of peace shown by our Creator. At this critical moment in world affairs, the people of Bangladesh must overcome political blindness and become সচেতন (aware). Breaking free from all conspiracies, strengthened by faith and unity, we must move forward. Only then can we build a “Golden Bangladesh” that stands as a global example of peace and justice.
